MTV Hits was a British pay television music channel owned by Paramount Networks UK & Australia that launched on 1 May 2001 replacing MTV Extra. It was replaced by MTV Hits Europe on 1 August 2024.

MTV Hits began broadcasting in widescreen on 28 March 2012.

In 2022, MTV Hits began heavily broadcasting 00s-themed programming, encouraging more linearity between the decade-themed MTV Channels and Christmas-themed programming throughout Christmas of each year. From 8:00pm on 31 December 2022 until 5:00am on 2 January 2023, the channel was broadcasting only 00s songs.[1][2]

On 6 July 2024, MTV Hits alongside its sister channel MTV Music stopped airing 'The Official UK Top 20/40' and 'The Official Chart Update Top 10' and instead airs 'This Week's MTV Top 10'.[3][4] Meaning no music channels air the UK top 40 anymore.

It was replaced by MTV Hits Europe on 1 August 2024. Despite this, MTV Hits in the UK still plays teleshopping and adverts.

European version

In 2014, MTV Hits Europe began broadcasting. The European version of the channel is registered with broadcasting regulators in Czech Republic.[5]
