Pertempuran Chester

Pertempuran Chester (bahasa Wales Kuno: Guaith Caer Legion; bahasa Wales: Brwydr Caer) adalah konflik yang berlangsung pada abad ke-VII di dekat kota Chester, Inggris, dan menghasilkan kemenangan besar Anglo-Saxon atas penduduk asli Briton. Æthelfrith dari Northumbria menyapu bersih kekuatan gabungan dari Kerajaan Powys, Rhos (cantref Kerajaan Gwynedd), dan mungkin Mercia. Akibatnya pemimpin Welsh Selyf ap Cynan dari Powys dan Cadwal Crysban dari Rhos tewas. Bukti menunjukkan bawah Raja Iago dari Gwynedd mungkin juga tewas.

Menurut Beda, sejumlah besar biarawan yang pergi untuk menyaksikan pertarungan dibunuh atas perintah Æthelfrith di awal pertempuran. Raja Anglo-Saxon memerintahkan pembantaian para ulama karena, meskipun mereka tidak bersenjata, mereka berdoa untuk kekalahan Northumbria.^[1]
