The Desert Rats (sh. Pustinjski štakori) je američki crno-bijeli ratni film snimljen 1953. u režiji Roberta Wisea. Radnja je smještena u libijski lučki grad Tobruk u kome se za vrijeme Drugog svjetskog rata godine 1941. našao odsječen saveznički garnizon, sastavljen pretežno od australskih trupa. Protagonist, koga tumači Richard Burton, je britanski oficir koji sticajem okolnosti komandira manjom jedinicom neiskusnih australijskih vojnika i sa kojima će proći niz iskušenja tokom višemjesečne opsade od strane nadmoćnih osovinskih trupa. U filmu James Mason nakratko ponavlja ulogu njemačkog feldmaršala Erwina Rommela, koju je dvije godine ranije bio tumačio u The Desert Fox; u ovom filmu je namjerno koristio "teški" njemački naglasak kako bi Rommela učinio antipatičnijim i tako izbjegao kritike kojima je bio izložen zbog prethodnog ostvarenja. The Desert Rats je, pak, bio kritiziran zbog niza historijskih nepreciznosti - osim što su osovinske trupe bile opremljene tenkovima M3 Grant i automatima Thompson sam naslov filma je pogrešno za branitelje Tobruka koristio nadimak koga je u istoj kampanji koristila britanska 7. oklopna divizija. Zbog toga se na film požalio i australijski general Leslie Morshead, stvarni komandant obrane Tobruka. Usprkos toga, The Desert Rats je pomogao mladom britanskom glumcu Richardu Burtonu da postane velika hollywoodska zvijezda.
